Dreambuilders Fundraising came to be from my love for my kids. I know how important it is to encourage your kids to explore their interest. How much it can shape them as a person. How much it can effect not only their youth but also their future.
I spent many years as a single mom with 3 kids and then we became a blended family with 5 kids. Whether you are a single parent or a pair, it can be difficult at times to make sure your kids have all the basics they need: clothes, food, housing. When it comes to extra curricular expenses, those go into the secondary category of childcare and it can be very hard as a parent to tell your child you can’t afford it or maybe come up with some other excuse because you don’t want to tell them that. We don’t want any parent to ever have to do that and we don’t want any child to ever have to miss out on opportunity for self growth due to financial restrictions.
My kids are all very different. Some are very interested in sports, some are very involved in church functions and some of them want to do it all. These things add up. Even if you are a parent lives more comfortably than others, that may mean you have more bills, higher bills, so the kids activities can still add to the financial stress of life no matter what your situation. I will be very honest in saying I live more comfortably as a two parent household than I did as a single parent. However, when your kids get to middle school and high school aged, there are a lot more activities and trips and they tend to be longer, further away and more expensive. Below are a few examples of things my children have wanted to participate in. Many were accomplished, a few did not make the cut, but I did send them out fundraising often, to family, friends and neighbors just to make it happen.
Club Soccer $150
Middle School Tennis $200
Middle School Football $600
Middle School Dance Team $800
Middle School Critical Thinking Class Trip $830
Summer Camp $250
8th Grade Class Trip $600
Club Volleyball $300
Band (cost of instrument and supplies)
High School Theater Trip $800
Church Summer Camp $250
Youth Church Challenge Weekend $75
Rock the Universe Christian Getaway $250
MOTION Student Conference $200
Church Mission Trip $250
Church Choir Tour $850
Study Abroad Program 2 weeks – $3400 6 weeks – $8700
High School Wrestling $500
All of these expenses often have additional expenses, food, souvenirs, wrestling shoes, etc. These things can be hard to make happen for your kids. If we can take this off of your plate and teach kids a little sales and communication skills as well as responsibly at the same time, we feel it’s a great opportunity to make a difference in peoples lives.
We have tried to develop a program that is affordable for people to be able to help, while also getting a product they’ll love. At the same time we want to make it an easy process for the kids. We handle the ordering, the shipping and have it setup so that there’s no cost to the organizations using our program and the kids get $10 for every product sold. This creates momentum to get them to their goal quickly and easily.
